If You Build It, They Will Come

Most of you have probably heard the phrase, “If you build it, they will come.”

But let’s face it. While you are getting caught up in daydreams about becoming the next Facebook or Twitter, other entrepreneurs are finding niches that work well for them.

A surprising fact about most successful start-ups…

Most start-up companies fly so far under the radar, we may never even learn of their existence. The thought of going viral and exposing yourself to millions of users often happens before your business has made ANY money. I’m not saying you can’t do it, I just think we should be more realistic in our approach. Value can be created rather easily, but how?

Finding a solution to a problem…

We live in a world that is far from perfect, but that my friend, is what gives you this perfect opportunity! Look at the world around you, ask plenty of questions and you will be quick to find a viable product or service solution.

An alternative approach to thinking big…the $1,000 Start-Up:

Instead of trying to create the next billion-dollar business, let’s take away a few zeros first. I urge you to build a $1,000 company that’s profitable in a repeatable and sustainable way. By doing so, you should learn:

  • Self-Sustainability
  • What it takes to build, deploy and run a business
  • That your $1,000 idea might be bigger than you thought

Take action, work hard, and enjoy the ride:

Focus on one clear value proposition. Don’t complicate things, you will add more problems without providing the right solution.

If you need a hand with brainstorming start-up ideas, here are some tips on how to monetize on digital properties:

  1. Explore the world of brand licensing
  2. Offer VIP status to customers
  3. Rent digital space
  4. Find partnerships
  5. Offer users access to premium content
  6. Monetize off the value of an email list
  7. Incorporate relevant advertising

If you have some cool ideas to add to the list, let me know in the comments below!

Finding Purpose – 8 Tips for Success in Business

I love to absorb information from people who are actively pursuing their dreams. What separates them from everyone else? What keeps making them push for something better? During my usual morning routine, I stumbled across these 8 refreshing tips by  Steve Bennett:

  1. Speak your mind
  2. Smile and laugh
  3. No ideas are stupid
  4. Waste is bad
  5. Make it simple
  6. Every time should be like the first
  7. Authenticity is essential
  8. Customers are precious

Based on the 8 tips above, I wrote the passage below with the hope to inspire someone else to pursue their dreams:

Don’t beat around the bush. Be honest with others, but most importantly with yourself. If you take life too seriously, you will miss out on everything valuable in this world; it’s not like we are going to make it out alive anyway!

Smile even if you don’t want to, and by all means, laugh! It’s contagious. Why should we spread hate and discontent when nobody has time for that!

Albert Einstein once said, “Everybody is a genius. But if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid. ” There is no such thing as a bad idea, impracticable maybe, but not wrong. This is especially true if you learned something new. Fail, learn, then try again. Repeat this as many times as necessary.

Even though we live in a universe full of abundance, wasting your time and resources is a colossal waste of an epic mind. When all else fails, use the KISS principle.

Do you remember successfully landing  a job for the first time? How about your first crush? Remember how you felt? Get excited about everything, everyday. Make every impression count, it will go far!

Show compassion and respect to your peers, clients, family and complete strangers. Let people love you and let that goodness spread.

If you felt inspired, share this for the people you care about!

Have a wonderful day!
